When land is taken for railroad purposes or for any other use public in its character and the amount found due by the court as damages for taking such land is deposited with the State Treasurer for the use of the owner of the land so taken, the State Treasurer shall keep such deposit for the persons owning the same, their heirs and assigns, subject to and in accordance with the provisions of part III of chapter 32. 1
