The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, in consultation with the Department of Public Health, may, upon application of a water company, as defined in section 16-1, order such water company to extend its system to serve properties that the authority determines are served by a deficient well system, as described in subdivision (2) of subsection (a) of section 16-262n, if the authority determines that the net costs of extending water service are reasonable. The cost recovery, rates and charges of such extension shall be treated in the same manner as provided for acquisitions pursuant to section 16-262o or 16-262s.
