All leases of state or school land shall be conditioned upon the payment of rent in advance, and the violation of this condition shall work a forfeiture of the lease, at the option of the state board of land commissioners, after thirty days' notice to the lessees. Notice shall be sent to the last-known post office address of the lessee, as given by the lessee to the director of the state board of land commissioners.
