In lieu of establishment of a public library, the legislative body of a governmental unit may contract to receive library service from an existing library, the board of trustees or governing body of which has the reciprocal power to render the service. Any school district may contract for library service from any existing public library, such service to be paid from funds available to the school district for library purposes. Any contract entered into pursuant to this section shall specify, without limitation, the geographic area covered by the contract, the amount of compensation to be paid to the library delivering the service, the term of the contract, and any other information deemed necessary by the contracting parties.
