The ninth day of October in each year, the same being the anniversary of the discovery of North America in the year 1000 A.D. by Leif Erikson, shall be known as “Leif Erikson Day”, and appropriate observance may be held in all public schools of the state in tribute to the discoverer of the North American continent.
