California Code, Streets and Highways Code - SHC § 6503

After the expiration of six months from the time of mailing the notice and upon payment by the holder of the bond to the treasurer of theamounts specified in Section 6505.1, the treasurer shall publish a notice of sale in a newspaper of general circulation, published in the city in which the bond was issued, or if no newspaper is published in the city, then in some newspaper having general circulation therein.
