The department's information relating to the safety oversight of light rail transit systems and street car systems in a county with a population of more than five hundred thousand persons is a public record pursuant to title 39, chapter 1, 1 except that, if the director, in consultation with the federal transit administration, determines the release of certain information would threaten the safety and security of the public, the director may keep the information confidential.
