(a)(1) Every person impounding any stray livestock shall immediately notify the Department of Agriculture in writing through procedure established by the department.
(2) If it is found that the owner of the livestock may be determined by any mark, tag, or brand upon the livestock, the impounder of the livestock shall at once notify the owner of his or her having impounded the livestock, giving an exact description of the livestock.
(3) The impounder of the livestock shall receive reasonable compensation for feeding the livestock.
(b) No person shall use, work, or exercise any acts of ownership over any livestock impounded by him or her until he or she shall have given notice thereof to the department.
