(a) The General Assembly finds that:
(1) On June 12, 1948, President Harry S. Truman signed into law the Women's Armed Services Integration Act of 1948, Pub. L. No. 80-625 allowing women the right to serve as permanent, regular members of the United States Army, United States Navy, United States Marine Corps, and United States Air Force;
(2) Women Veterans Day is observed on June 12 in the United States to mark the anniversary of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act of 1948, Pub. L. No. 80-625;
(3) Women Veterans Day is acknowledged as an effort to honor the work of women in the United States Armed Forces and recognize the unique challenges that women have faced; and
(4) Many states have officially recognized June 12 as Women Veterans Day.
(b) June 12 of each year shall be known as “Women Veterans Day”.
(c) Women Veterans Day is not a legal holiday but is a memorial day to be commemorated by the issuance of an appropriate proclamation by the Governor.
