Vermont Statutes Title 24 (Appendix). Municipal Charters, App. c. 269 § 306. Vacancies of elected and appointed officers

(a) When an elected or appointed officer specified herein resigns, makes another town his or her residence, dies, or becomes incapacitated, his or her office shall become vacant. A person who fills such a vacancy shall serve until his or her predecessor's term expires. The Village Manager shall cause to be published in a newspaper of general local circulation notice of such vacancy.

(b) Any resident may, within 10 days of the publication, submit his or her name to the Village Manager as an applicant for the vacancy. The names of all applicants shall be entered in the minutes of the next regularly scheduled trustees' meeting.

(c) At the first regular meeting of the Board of Trustees following the expiration of the period set forth in sections 306(a) and 306(b), the trustees shall fill the vacancy from the list of applicants. Said appointment shall be for the remainder of the unexpired term unless this charter provides otherwise.

(d) A vacancy in the Office of Village President shall be filled by a member of the Board of Trustees, to be appointed by the Board.
