The Secretary of Highways may take over as a part of the system of State highways of the Commonwealth any existing road, street or structure which may form, or be a part of, any bridge approach or connecting road to be constructed under the terms of this act. Any bridge, road or street constructed or taken over, as herein provided, shall thereafter be maintained by and at the expense of the Commonwealth, subject to the laws governing the maintenance, occupancy or use of State highways and bridges.
