A person who is authorized to pronounce individuals dead is required to inform one of the persons authorized to request an autopsy, as provided in section 144.56 , that an autopsy will be required if the individual who died was a public safety officer who may have died in the line of duty and an eligible beneficiary of the deceased seeks to claim a federal public safety officer death benefit. 1
